Jennifer, owner of Barrio Dog Training, has been a passionate dog owner since a young age. In college, it was always an adventure to travel to visit her parents during breaks, as she had over 10 animals (dogs, rabbit, birds, gerbils & guinea pigs) that came along for the ride.
Jennifer graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor in Psychology and received her Master of Social Work from Arizona State University. She worked nearly 25 years as a probation/parole officer and retired in 2002.
In 2019, Daisy, the Plott Hound, joined the Gastelum family. As she grew older, she developed anxiety and would often refuse to leave the house to go for a walk. After working with an amazing trainer, Daisy now willingly goes outside and even enjoys frequent trips to the country to run with her cohorts. Daisy’s struggle is what gives Jennifer passing for wanting to train other dogs and help them live their best lives.
In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys working with dogs at a local rescue. She helps exercise them and evaluate them to help improve placement in their forever homes. She also enjoys going to the country to let her dogs run and spend time with her family.
Jennifer is Certified Dog Trainer with Animal Behavioral College, which focuses on creating a canine-human relationship built on positive reinforcement training methods. Jennifer factors in all characteristics of each dog’s situation, including breed, background, temperament, and household environment. An individual approach is taken with every dog, taking into account their unique factors and specific needs.
